Evergreen, the Conecuh County seat, is a town of 3,600 located
in south central Alabama. Our community has all the benefits
of small town life, with its slower pace, friendly atmosphere
and focus on family life. It also has interstate access to
city amenities in Montgomery (75 miles) or Mobile (100 miles).
If you enjoy spending time at the beach, we are only about
90 miles from the Gulf Coast beaches.
Education: Public school enrollment (2003) is 2100, and we
have a student-teacher ratio of 12 to 1 allowing for individualized
instruction. The high school was recently built in 1989, and
the new elementary school was opened in the fall of 2002.
Evergreen has a 12-grade private school with pre-kindergarten
classes for 3 and 4 year olds. Evergreen is within 30 miles
of three junior colleges, and there is a technical college
located right here in Evergreen.
Recreation: Conecuh County is truly an outdoorsman’s
paradise with over 400 lakes and ponds in the area, and over
200 miles of streams. Approximately three-fourths of Conecuh
County is covered in forest, allowing for lots of good hunting
and fishing.
In the city limits we have a beautiful city park with a newly
built Everfun playground, a fishing pond, ball fields, horse
arena, picnic areas and jogging trails. The Evergreen Golf
Club has a 9-hole course with a swimming pool and clubhouse.
For the historians at heart, there is an ongoing archaeological
site just outside Evergreen that reveals a Native American
culture dating from before Christ. |
