Laboratory
Evergreen Medical Center has a state of the art laboratory that is equipped with the very latest in high-tech laboratory instrumentation. Advanced laboratory technology along with a highly skilled, experienced and dedicated staff strives to ensure that physicians are provided with accurate reliable data that is necessary to diagnose, evaluate, or monitor health and/or disease states in patients of all ages. The laboratory performs a variety of routine and “stat” laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, data retrieval, specimen processing and analysis. Specimen analysis includes performing a broad spectrum of laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank.

   

The laboratory and its friendly staff are here to assist seven (7) days per week and twenty-four (24) hours per day.


Respiratory Therapy
The Respiratory Therapy Department at Evergreen Medical Center provides a broad range of the most current services in respiratory therapy to patients of all age groups. The respiratory staff performs a variety of tests, which assist in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of several heart and lung ailments. The respiratory department also provides breathing treatments and supplemental oxygen therapy, which aid in the prevention, reduction and or management of breathing related conditions. Respiratory therapy hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. On call services are available after normal hours of operation.

Dietary
We, the staff of Evergreen Medical Center’s (EMC) Dietary team, believe that good, nutritious food is essential to a patient’s recovery. The staff works hard to provide three meals a day for inpatients and their guests of EMC as well as provide meals for our employees 365 days a year. In addition, they provide catering for special events such as medical staff meetings, executive committee meetings, and special lunches for guests visiting EMC. In 2002, the Dietary team served 50,702 meals. Imagine buying groceries enough to fill 50,702 trays.

Meals are served daily as follows: Breakfast (7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.), Lunch (11:50 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.), and Dinner (5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.) Their work hours are 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with the personnel scheduled accordingly to work their 8-hour shifts.

This committed team is always working behind the scenes to prepare meals. The goal of the Dietary Department is to prepare delicious, healthy food, which will enhance our patient’s recovery. Overall customer satisfaction is the ultimate goal. The department operates under the direction of a licensed dietician.

Pharmacy
Evergreen Medical Center is staffed with an accredited pharmacy school and Alabama State Board of Pharmacy licensed pharmacist and licensed pharmacy technicians. The Pharmacy department works with your physician to accurately supply your medication needs during your hospitalization. Included in our pharmaceutical services are IV preparations, unit-dosing of medications, self-administered intravenous pain medications (PCA), total nutritional supplements (TPN), drug information, drug therapy monitoring, checking for allergies and correcting drug/dosing issues.

In order to stay current with the vast changes in medicine, the pharmacist must have at least 15 hours of continuous education each year plus 4 hours of education at EMC. The pharmacy technicians are required to have 2 hours of continuous education hours each year to continue employment at EMC.

Case Management
The Case Management Department at Evergreen Medical Center is here to assist the patient when continued care is needed. Through the process of discharge planning assessment, the patient's need for home health, hospice, nursing home, rehabilitation placement, or assisted living placement can be determined. Additional services such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation and access to durable medical equipment for home use can be also be determined and recommended. The department works closely with other agencies to help provide assistance in order for patients to receive an optimal level of care.
