New Technology to Improve Patient Care at EMC

Patients who require an overnight stay at Evergreen Medical Center will benefit from a new state-of-the-art telemetry system recently installed at the facility. This new, innovative system manufactured by Nihon Kohden is the only one of its kind to offer EKG, respiration and pulse oximetry monitoring for patients wearing small, lightweight, battery powered wireless transmitters. It also provides arrhythmia detection, vital signs, trends, and alarm history for display and review. Sensors placed on the patient used to gather this vital information represent the smallest, most powerful sensors in the industry. An 18” flat panel touch screen monitor displays the results and alerts nurses at the Nurses’ Station of any changes in the patient’s condition immediately. This new technology will allow patients more freedom to move around their patient room and to walk in the hallways as necessary.

“EMC’s long-term plan for technology enhancements is coming together. In addition to the recent installments of Medication-Verification and our new Med-Station to enhance patient safety, this new telemetry system is another step in improving patient care here at EMC,” states Jim Peace, Administrator. “Our goal is to exceed our patients’ expectations and by adding and upgrading these systems, we are making another step towards this goal.”
